Looking up to the top of a sand dune after hiking about 2.5 miles, I knew I must keep going all the way. Lake Michigan was on the other side of the dune and it was calling my name.
Once at the top, a glimpse of the lake against the blue sky beyond the forest of trees was all the energy I needed to make it to the water’s edge.
Going down the other side of the trail as my feet sank into the soft sand was much quicker than going up.
Yes, there is a parking lot closer to the beach. It is easier to get to the lake from there but that would mean missing out on the adventure of hiking up and over the sand dune. Where’s the fun in that?
